We all want to be involved in our communities but with the middle class becoming more mobile that goal can be tricky. Volunteering does not need to be another job, or take a lot of your time. In 2009 when I made the New Year’s Resolution to volunteer more and it created a life fill with giving moment and a career in the nonprofit sector. Giving back can be fun and help build relationships.

Below are some tips to help you get started.

1) What is your cause? – You must figure what cause you care most about. Remember it’s volunteering, therefore you are not getting paid for it. So you are going to have to love it.

2) Do you want to volunteer for a nonprofit or a professional organization? – You can sit on a committee of a professional organization. That does count as volunteering because those organizations are always looking for volunteers.

3) How much time do you have a month? – Before you go in, you must know how much time you can give and when.

Remember you must do your research and talk to a few a organizations. If a organization does not show their appreciation to you, you may want to try elsewhere.
