Your New Year’s Resolution may be to change careers. Well I asked my new friend in India to write about her views on the Digital Marketing sector. Neha Agarwal is a Digital Marketer in India and author of the blog mylifemyways.com. Currently she is studying gifting trends and busy strategizing Valentine’s Day Gifts organic campaign for IGP.com in India. Which by the way, has some amazing gifts.  Here is her story.

From a progressive career to a beautiful personal and a happening social life, women want it all. And why not? A woman is capable of playing many roles. She is a homemaker, breadwinner, mother, wife, and so on. While a lot of debate goes on gender equality across the globe, yet the beauty of being women is that we ourselves want it all. And to successfully multi-task, career choices should be made by not only considering the paychecks but should also allow to fulfill many roles without compromising much.

It’s been 7 years that I am employed in digital marketing. From maiden to married, executive to leader I have seen several changes in life during these years. After spending these many years and playing multiple roles of a daughter, friend, wife, daughter-in-law along with a professional, I think my experience allows me to endorse digital as a female friendly career option!

1. Flexibility & freedom to Work from Anywhere
I personally feel Digital is not career but lifestyle. Yes of course you need to do a 9 to 5 job in the beginning. But once you understand the work you can later choose from options like freelancing, consulting or even can start your own digital marketing agency.

2. Digital Marketing is not just about technology
Digital Marketing is a career which doesn’t need you to be a geek or developer. Yes it requires an understanding of languages and technology but Digital is more than just technical understanding.

3. Become your own boss at any point of time
Unlike other professions if you want to become your own boss, starting a digital marketing business doesn’t require lot of investment. A Digital Professional can work from literally anywhere from beaches to hills. All it needs is an internet connection and a laptop.

4. Internet Industry needs Smart Women in Digital
Well one perspective is that women across the World control the vast majority of household spending. So unless a business has men as target audience, they need women digital marketers to better understand customer perspective. Though not only Internet Industry but business across the World demands more women at work.

5. Tremendous Growth Options
With the increase in Internet population, brands and businesses across the World are keeping a nice chunk of budgets for Digital Activities.  One fact about Digital is that it requires creative side to solve marketing problems and get a message across. And who can deny that women are born creative.
I’m beautiful in my way
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way
-Lady Gaga, “Born This Way”

Final Words
Today’s women is smart and intelligent and with their sincerity they are capable to excel in any field they choose. So while I stand by the point that digital marketing is a female-friendly career, I will suggest go ahead with your passion, choose jobs that make you learn a lot and help you create a fulfilling life.
